Because...
youth crime workshop key-points follows below. Click for report.
The Because... summary and published document will follow in due course.
Click to see photo gallery. Thank you to all the young people and
adults who attended the workshop on Dec. 3
Issues
raised included the promotion of education in a wider context, which
highlighted values; the promotion of positive images in the media;
discipline; and the notion of responsibility among the youth.
Perhaps
the most interesting message from young people was that they want youth
clubs that teach human values. The overall message of the day was
the need for collective responsibility in working together to reduce
crime and the fear of crime. (Dec. 5 2005)
BTWSC and Black Music Congress (BMC) are running the BECAUSE... youth
crime project Oct-Dec. 2005.
“Me
saying some positive words to a few kids (at gun amnesties) is going to
have an effect, whether it’s one kid or ten kids that turn their heads
and listen,” says former
So Solid Crew rapper Asher D,
who received plaudits for his
starring role in the ‘Bullet Boy’ movie.
Calling
all youths, parents, teachers, local politicians, mentors, recording
artists, media practitioners, police, youth and
social workers, faith groups, YOT and PYA workers,
community groups, and
other stake-holders!!
Do you have views on the cause of youth crime? Do you have any
ideas about possible solutions for dealing with youth crime? Are you
involved in any anti-youth crime or anti-gun crime initiatives? If yes, why not
input into our BECAUSE... youth project?
Come
and have your say on the causes of youth crime, and also offer possible
solutions: join in a
free
inter-generational workshop, edu-tainment fun, and watch the screening
of Don’t Trigger campaign’s ‘Why?’ video on Saturday
December 3. 3-6pm.
