Its Cool To Recycle End Of Project Event
Brent Youths Make Recycling Cool
At the end of this summer's Love In The Community project, the youths who worked on the video project wanted some form of continuation. Thankfully, Cllr Lincoln Beswick MBE, who presented the youths with their certificates at the LITC end of project event in September, suggested BTWSC apply for Brent Council's Neighbourhood Working funding.

After successfully applying for the funding, BTWSC delivered an October half-term youth video project, which had a resounding thumps up on Friday Dec. 11 2009. The It’s Cool To… Recycle DVD, made around Harlesden ward with the youths, highlighted green issues in an engaging manner using information provided by the Council and other sources, and a specially commissioned rap to underscore the “reduce, reuse, recycle” theme.
“I just want to say that if you learn anything from here, you must go home and implement it, and teach other people as well,” said BTWSC youth leader Ahmed Ahmed, 16, at the inter-generational event, which took place at Unity Centre on Church Road.

“It was a great event. I'm glad that the councillors fully participated as well,” added Neighbourhood Working co-ordinator Carol Allen.
In attendance were Councillors Janice Long, Lincoln Beswick MBE and Will Motley, and Green Zone champion Lorraine Skinner. “It is always a pleasure to support your endeavours. You have delivered over and above the norm, and this needs to be recognised,” said Cllr Beswick.
The event incorporated a fundraiser for Harlesden-based Sickle Cell Society. £100 was received by the charity’s director Dr Philip Nortey.
The youths will formally receive their certificates and copies of the DVD at a reception at the House Of Commons hosted by Brent South MP Dawn Butler next week.
